In Safety Issues
Brothers and Sisters I have recently been contacted by both Conductors and Engineers regarding the lack of roll bys being done. I was going to address it at the next meeting, but the issue seems to be getting worse. I have mentioned that the company is gathering information to support their fight for 1 person crews. I have also mentioned that we need to do our part to show the company we are needed in that cab. Part of our duty is to ensure that our brothers and sisters are working in a safe environment and that their trains are in good condition. That is why we get off and inspect the trains from the ground as they roll by. There are times and reasons (mainly safety related) when it is safer to inspect them from inside the cab but those instructions usually come from the company. I can't stress enough how important it is for all of us to do our job as required. I am asking that we all make our best effort to get off the cab and roll the trains by when safe to do so. I would hate for the company to use that against our craft or to take the opportunity and go testing to see who is in violation of not preforming their duties and start sending out charge letters. I am sure that all of us fight the urge not to step out when the train is coming, but keep in mind that it's our job to protect our fellow members and our craft to the best of our abilities. I will be addressing this again at the meeting should there be a need for any further discussions. As always, if there are any questions, please feel free to contact any of the officers. Fraternally, Sal LC 18[T]
